We welcome Sam Kumbula to the Plastics SA Sustainability Division. Sam is the Sustainability Project Coordinator, and will be based at our Midrand offices (see photo of Douw Steyn and Sam Kumbula at the Plastics SA offices).
This week Sam participated in a Stakeholder Workshop at K2C offices in Hoedspruit, held for stakeholders from the local municipality, buy-back centres, tribal leaders, conservationists and community leaders and visited the new proposed Thulamahashe landfill site, all under the umbrella of the ISOW Project. ISOW (Innovative Solutions for Waste) is a transformative, community-driven initiative designed to turn these challenges into opportunities by advancing waste recycling systems and fostering sustainable livelihoods.
Supported by Plastics SA, it will revolutionize waste management in South Africa while empowering youth and women through green jobs, enterprise development, and environmental stewardship.
The project is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and commissioned by the Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) additionally co-funded by the European Union through regional and bilateral Team Europe Initiatives (TEIs) and Norway.
Sam comes with a wealth of experience in the waste sector, especially in the Kwa Zulu Natal region and is the proud owner of a Master of Science degree (Environmental Science).
Get to know the face – you will be seeing a lot of him in the future!! Sam, we wish you a long and happy stay at Plastics SA and look forward to working with you.
