This week we celebrate World Environment Day!

World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5th, serves as a powerful reminder of our responsibility to protect and preserve the natural world. Established by the United Nations in 1972, it has grown into a global platform for raising awareness and driving action on critical environmental issues such as climate change, deforestation, pollution, and biodiversity loss. The day encourages individuals, communities, and governments to take tangible steps towards sustainable living and to reflect on how everyday choices impact the planet.

The importance of World Environment Day lies in its ability to unite people across borders under a common cause—safeguarding the Earth for future generations. Through clean-up drives, educational campaigns, policy advocacy, and green innovations, the day ignites momentum for long-term change. It not only spotlights urgent ecological challenges but also celebrates the progress made in environmental conservation, reminding us that positive change is possible when collective action is taken.

Locally, this week, eco warriors such as EtheKwini  Save-a-Fishie, Live Life Always, Alexandra Water Warriors, Armour, Hennops Revival, Soulbent, CityZen, Nimbostratus Foundation, Cetric Mpophela Foundation, Helderberg Ocean Awareness Movement, Clean Projects, and their dedicated volunteers and sponsors across the country are supporting, organising and doing clean-ups, not only to make a difference but to create awareness of the scourge of litter!

Plastics SA is a proud sponsor of refuse bags to most of these groups.
