Whether it is current parts being made more sustainable or parts from other materials being converted to plastic parts in a more sustainable way, designers have to be aware of the unique nature of plastics as a material and how to effectively design with these materials to ensure ease of production and efficiencies.
Existing Plastic Part Designers will need to update their knowledge base to effectively design parts from new high performance polymers for medical, automotive and aerospace applications in particular without excluding light-weighting in packaging and other applications.
Plastics|SA recognises the need for this specialised knowledge and regularly brings well known International Plastics Expert, Peter Cracknell, to South Africa, to run various Programmes. This year it was slightly different and Peter ran his Plastic Part Design Programme Online.
Other programmes that have been presented:
- 5-Day Plastics Materials Programme
- 4-Day Essentials of Injection Mould Design
- Demystifying PET – Injection Stretch Blow Moulding and PET Material
The Programmes are presented by Peter Cracknell, highly knowledgeable and experienced expert in polymer technology, engineering and processing, and tool design at the London School of Polymer Technology. He is the academic leader responsible for short courses, consultancy and industrial project management which involves product development, failure analysis, recycling, tool design and development and knowledge transfer partnership programmes.
